The chambers of Old English Court is a rare example of civilian architecture. This building was constructed at the turn of 15-16 cent. at the territory of Zaryadiye, one of the oldest district of Moscow. The Old English Court is in the center of Moscow, on the oldest street Varvarka next to Red Square. In the past it was used as a residency by the English Moscow Trading Company and later by the British Embassy.
The interiors of the museum show exactly what a civilian building of the middle-ages looked like. The exposition of the Museum shows the development of diplomatic and trading relationships between Russia and England. The main hall of the English residency was called Kazennaya Palata. It was used for finalizing trade contacts, holding business receptions and safeguarding the company’s treasury.
The museum offers a theatrical guided-tour called “Jerome Gorsay recounts… in which the traveler, writer and agent of the trading company tells about the discovery of Russia by the English.
