Exhibition “Tsar’s Crown” / 2 July

“Tsar’s Crown”
 
 
On July 2 2008 at the Museum of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in the eve of the 90th anniversary of tragic events taking place in Yekaterinburg in the night from the 16th  to the 17th of July 1918 – execution of the family of the Emperor Nikolai II- took place an inauguration of the exhibition “Tsar’s Crown”.
 
This exhibition was prepared on blessing of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Alexis II .
MoscowCityMuseum and the State Archive of the Russian Federation worked out this exhibition project together with Diocese of Yekaterinburg, Publishing Council of Russian Orthodox Church and Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.
Materials from museums’, archives’ and churches’  collections represent evidences and vivid details of the life and activity of the Russian Emperor from his accession to the throne till his abdication, execution and his Glorification by Saint Tsar Martyrs.
 
At the exhibition there are original archive documents from the funds of the State Archive of the Russian Federation about state activity of Nikolai II with his signature, photos taken by the members of Tsar’s family, letters, drawings.
Diocese of Yekaterinburg represents icons and photos showing building of the churches and monasteries on the place of execution of the Tsar’s family.
For the ceremony of inauguration there were brought from Ural region sacred objects such as a relics-cross, which belonged to the family till the time of its  execution, the Chrism icon of   Saint Tsar Martyrs, the icon of the Saint Nikolai with an appearing icon of the Tsar’s family in 2001 and 2004.
 
Exhibition is open from 3 July till 10 September 2008.
