Museum of archeology of Moscow was opened in 1997. It is situated under the earth in the depth of 7 meters at the place of archeological excavations, which took place in 1994-1995. The basis of the exposition is the piers of Voskresensky Bridge which connected 2 banks of the Neglinnaya river.


Excavation works were organized by the Center of archeological researching. During excavations there were found children’s toys, tiles, silver and gold items. Archeologists managed to open foundations of stone building of the 18-19 c-s, shells of wells and other things. This foundation allowed to reconstruct the town-planning and building of the handicraft settlement. It became possible to reconstruct everyday life of the people of the handicraft region of Medieval Moscow. Voskresensky Bridge across the river Neglinnaya –was one of the biggest buildings. On the place of that bridge there existed more ancient wooden crossing from which Tverskaya way to the northern-west of Russia began.

During the reign of Boris Godunov there was a Stone Bridge built across the Neglinnaya-river. This is the first bridge in plans of Moscow of the 17th century. In 1740 on the place of old Bridge there was a new white stone bridge built. Its length was about 100 meters, width about 30 meters. It had 5 arches, one of them was flowing. In 1817-1819 the Neglinnaya-river was concluded into the pipe, and Voskresensky bridge was covered with earth. You have got an opportunity to see how the Voskresensky Bridge looked like at the ancient at the model of the exposition of the Museum.
